Saint Mary's Chorus takes 1st Place in Competition

On May 13th, Saint Mary's School Chorus traveled from Rockville, MD to Hershey, PA to compete against other middle schools from the Mid-Atlantic region in the Music in the Parks Festival. Under the direction of Mrs. Sarah Berg, Saint Mary's School Chorus is comprised of 40 voices from grades 5th though 8th, and sings three-part, Soprano/Alto/Baritone compositions. St. Mary's had the most competition of the festival day in the Mixed Choir division and entertained the judges with a lively African piece Tuimbe, Masicule! (Let's Sing!) complete with student percussion, followed by a traditional, 17th century Latin antiphon, Da Pacem Domine, in three parts with a descant.
The hard work these students dedicated to their music education proved impressive to the judges and the chorus was awarded 1st place and excellent reviews.
Saint Mary's School in Rockville, Maryland has an active performing and fine arts division which includes multiple chorus and band performances, a biannual art show, and an audition-only yearly, Spring musical.
